HP 2tb usb 3.0 desktop hard drive Reviews

This HP external hard drive is just what I needed. It worked great right out of the box. It's quiet, runs cool, and sets up easily. I use it as my primary storage so I was concerned about the automatic backup program. As long as that program isn't engaged, it isn't a problem.
There is an issue with lag time but I think it's the laptop, not the hard drive. The laptop only has 2Gb of memory so it takes up to thirty seconds for it to access the hard drive the first time I use it in the morning or when it's been idle for a while.
It did take quite a while to migrate all my files (700Gbs) using the 2.0 USB port but I expected that. As most of my files are photos, I worried about loss (I lost quite a few in the last transfer), but found no losses in this transfer.
As this drive was an emergency purchase to rescue files from a dying CPU and older external hard drive, I was very pleased with its performance.

Before I rate this product, I'd like to commend STL Pro Inc for their very fast delivery of two days, and for that they earned 5-stars. They also packaged the product professionally too. The 'caveat' is this: Another vendor is now the only one listed on Amazon as a 3rd party seller, and am not able to comment about them. I did take note for this review that the HD price jumped to almost $30 more than what I paid for it about two weeks back of this posting date, and not counting S&H from STL.
There's, not much I can add about the Toshiba 2 TB USB 3.0 External Hard Drive PH3200U-1E3S that other reviewers have not already commented.
I'm very pleased with this product because it worked perfect from the box. After reading the quick note in the packaging, the HD was up running in less than two minutes on my PC. It also pleased me that there was NO junkware on the drive. There are only two PDF files on the drive. One is about the do & do nots and care, and the other is a manual. The manual needs to be read because the drive and/or computer can be damaged if it's not mounted and dismounted correctly. It's simple to do, but extremely important to do correctly, every time.
The drive is already formatted with the NTFS protocol (New Technology File System) developed by Microsoft. You do not hear the drive operating as it's as quite as a church mouse.
The LED is bright, very bright, and reminds me of a Cylon Centurion from Battlestar Galactica except it's a white light, and its rectangular shape is the thickness of the drive. In other words, it's annoying, but you are aware when the drive is reading and writing data...that's for sure.
This Toshiba drive is worth the price of admission. When using USB 3.0 it's faster than a speeding bullet, and with USB 2.0, it!s able to leap tall buildings. You will not be disappointed with this puppy in either the 1T or 2T galactic size capacity. Both drives are large enough to hold Al's mom (from Home Improvement), and of course the 2T can hold two of Al's mom.
I've been told that these drives are more for storage than for boot drives, though... If your plans are for a boot drive, you'll need to do some homework on Toshiba's site, or from reliable blogs, and I also don't know if this statement is accurate, but it's worth looking into before you make the purchase. Guessing, these drives are so big, if not partitioned, that the system checks during boot could take a long time to seek the data required to operate correctly would be scattered over a large area. Regardless, I purchased mine for storage and backup, and have not tried to load an operating system on it to see how well it would work as a boot drive.
Again, these Toshiba drives are built well, and I believe them to be amongst the best.

Originally I purchased this because the reviews were alright and I needed something to back up my hard drive. I had problems from the get-go. It continually wants to go into sleep mode after operating for only 10 or 15 minutes, and many times I cannot eject it without a forced ejection, (not good). I didn't trust it to be a back up drive so I used an older 750 GB LaCie drive that I've never had a problem with to do back up, and use the 2 TB drive as an external capture and render drive, although I've had some trouble with it as it will still go into sleep mode every few minutes making accessing and saving the data a pain. I've noticed since I bought the drive that I see many more bad reviews on it.
Update; After much frustration and doing some debugging with "Drive Genius" the unexpectedly going to sleep and the not wanting to be ejected and turned off appear to be resolved, but remember, these were problems from the get-go on the first day that I received the drive. I am upgrading from 2 stars to 4 as it now works okay, but it should have worked good from the day I received it.

Lacie starck desktop hard drive 2tb review

Simply a well-made desktop drive. Although I eventually reformatted the drive (thereby removing the LaCie software), the backup software works the way it was designed and is pretty much seamless and user configurable. I prefer not to use backup software and do things manually, therefore I did not continue using it. The design is quite nice - very robust and elegant. It is really quite a beautiful looking product. Price-wise, yuou can beat this by a few dollars, but for the extra few beans you get the robust metal case with the organic front face, something that I fell is worth the money. Also, when you use the LaCie software, there is a touch point on the front of the chrome "wave" surface that you can configure for simple one-touch backup. Very slick drive and design, highly recommended!

This is one device that does not need any supervision while the backup is going on. An excellent external hard drive that perfectly fits my MacBook without any complains. It not just looks great but works great as well. A complete go getter. I have connected it to the USB 2.0 port and it backups data without any reminder.
