It took me a while to settle on this drive as what I'm placing my faith in for most of my photo collection. In the range of 20,000+ photos, I'm somewhat betting the farm (beside some online backup) on this one. I can say the drive works great with my Macbook Pro over Firewire 800.
One quirk about the drive is that it has a power saving feature that shuts off pretty quickly. Even when not directly accessing it, the drive will boot back up, with what seems as random. Each time that happens it slows my computer and causes it to pause. Solution: keep it running all the time it's plugged in. I then turn off the drive when I don't need to access the files. Easy solution for me, but might be an annoyance for some.
