Before I rate this product, I'd like to commend STL Pro Inc for their very fast delivery of two days, and for that they earned 5-stars. They also packaged the product professionally too. The 'caveat' is this: Another vendor is now the only one listed on Amazon as a 3rd party seller, and am not able to comment about them. I did take note for this review that the HD price jumped to almost $30 more than what I paid for it about two weeks back of this posting date, and not counting S&H from STL.
There's, not much I can add about the Toshiba 2 TB USB 3.0 External Hard Drive PH3200U-1E3S that other reviewers have not already commented.
I'm very pleased with this product because it worked perfect from the box. After reading the quick note in the packaging, the HD was up running in less than two minutes on my PC. It also pleased me that there was NO junkware on the drive. There are only two PDF files on the drive. One is about the do & do nots and care, and the other is a manual. The manual needs to be read because the drive and/or computer can be damaged if it's not mounted and dismounted correctly. It's simple to do, but extremely important to do correctly, every time.
The drive is already formatted with the NTFS protocol (New Technology File System) developed by Microsoft. You do not hear the drive operating as it's as quite as a church mouse.
The LED is bright, very bright, and reminds me of a Cylon Centurion from Battlestar Galactica except it's a white light, and its rectangular shape is the thickness of the drive. In other words, it's annoying, but you are aware when the drive is reading and writing data...that's for sure.
This Toshiba drive is worth the price of admission. When using USB 3.0 it's faster than a speeding bullet, and with USB 2.0, it!s able to leap tall buildings. You will not be disappointed with this puppy in either the 1T or 2T galactic size capacity. Both drives are large enough to hold Al's mom (from Home Improvement), and of course the 2T can hold two of Al's mom.
I've been told that these drives are more for storage than for boot drives, though... If your plans are for a boot drive, you'll need to do some homework on Toshiba's site, or from reliable blogs, and I also don't know if this statement is accurate, but it's worth looking into before you make the purchase. Guessing, these drives are so big, if not partitioned, that the system checks during boot could take a long time to seek the data required to operate correctly would be scattered over a large area. Regardless, I purchased mine for storage and backup, and have not tried to load an operating system on it to see how well it would work as a boot drive.
Again, these Toshiba drives are built well, and I believe them to be amongst the best.
